Why did this mask fail?

Review

Video Transcript Hey, everyone. Welcome back to the place we were testing every single mask and respirator. That's right, on Amazon. Today, we are looking at the Honeywell DF300. How do they come up with these names, like the DF300? It sounds like a robot from space but it's not. It's a KN95, N95 style mask, that you too can buy on Amazon for about a buck a piece. Pretty good. Pretty good.

So it's the KN95 style that they put head straps on and let's stop talking about that and put it in the box. Now, I already hate this mask. I know, right? This guy's got opinions. Look at this box. It's not a soft touch and it's got that in there. Look at... We didn't do this. Did we do this? We didn't do this. Look at this. Just no attention to detail, Honeywell. It's just spilling out of the bag. It's not even sealed. Come on guys. Where's the love? Where's the pride? Huh? Where's the pride? Then look at like the Honeywell is half printed on there. On how does that break? How does that make it past your quality process?

Clamp cam. Look, I'm always going to hate on the big manufacturers just because I'm biased, because I'm a hater. I'm just a bad person with a bad attitude. I just could expect more from somebody that's been doing this for so long. Let's check out this mask.

This is an interesting KN95 design. I kind of like that. Actually when you see this thing coming at you, I actually, I think DF300 is the right name for this. Look out. It's the DF300. What is this a mask for ants? How Am I supposed to put this on?

Look at... Okay. What the... No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. Oh, wow. That smelled like someone's used sock drawer. What is going on? Seriously? Oh wow. Just smell this. I am not kidding. Dude, that is real weird. That's what I'm going to call this smell, real weird. I don't know what that is but it's not right. It is not right and that's so weird because I just smelled another... I maybe there's a gas leak in here. There could be something going on because I've had two masks in the row that have been the worst smelling masks ever.

Let's let's break this guy apart a little bit and see. This is the DF300 N95. Looks to be at a legit N95. I'm sure it is. It's Honeywell. They make a lot of stuff. I do like the unique cross pattern they have here. It's like an X coming at you. So that's something, I guess. Look at this though. It's like almost a hole right there. Smell is horrible. Can never wear this mask. I don't know, man. I don't know what's going on.

Let's do the head straps. So micro head straps. It broke. Why is it always happen? So I don't know. I don't know. I think it's pretty good. I think it's pretty good. It was weird that one broke. I think it's pretty good. Smells horrible. Unusable. Totally unusable. It's just totally. You can't use this mask. I mean I'll show you what the percentage is here. Let's do it. It's 97%. Great. How good is that if you can't put it on your face for more than second because it smells so bad? I don't know, Honeywell, maybe seal the bag next time. That's it. I'm out. I'll catch you on the next test.

Description

The Honeywell DF300 passed our particulate filtration efficiency machine test with a score of 97.69%. A defining characteristic of N95 masks is they have either head straps or head ties (no ear loops).

Mask breathability is determined by airflow resistance, which we measure in pascals. The target for adults should be around 150, and the target for children should be close to 100. The airflow resistance of this mask is 93.10.

This mask has an extremely off-putting odor we can only describe as dirty socks. Between that and the flimsy micro head straps, there are better options out there.

We found this mask on Amazon. Its country of origin is Mexico. Check out our video review for more details.

I have some Honeywell DC300 N95s. It is not a flat-fold; it is more of a formed mask. NO smell. Straps are sturdy yet comfortable, with the lower one shorter than the upper one which is how it should be (many others are not like that). I was surprised to find it very comfortable, the mask had a very good seal immediately, and it has great breathability. The slightly higher nose part helps glass-wearers by not steaming up the glasses! I’m looking forward to using this on an upcoming trip where I’ll be wearing the mask on long walks through airports and for many hours of travel.

I have a question about the Honeywell, Model DC300N95 NIOSH N95, TC-84A-8139, Lot# 21 05 04 C 21A. Any test results for this particular mask?

I’ve been wearing this mask almost every day for many hours at a time. I keep my spares in zip-lock sandwich bags, they fit in your pocket. I find behind the head straps so much more comfortable than ear loops, especially being bald, they stay in place. I’m 5-‘7" I didn’t think these were too tight, N95s are supposed to be tight, but if you are taller and have a bigger head then maybe yes. I had the same experience with Amazon with a barely closed box and open bag, and the logo printing was inconsistent from mask to mask. Made me really uncomfortable they could be fake or a return. I let these masks sit for many days, and I pulled the 1st mask from the bottom. I didn’t smell anything, but I have a poor sense of smell. Several people in my office have had Covid, and to the best of my knowledge; myself, and the other guy that wears N95s, have avoided it. I think your testing gave them a high breathability rating at 93.10 pa but you didn’t mention it ? Please confirm if I got that right. I would buy them again, but I wish I could find a KN94 style with a color other than white or black that gets a good rating.

Purchased Honeywell n95 on Amazon and noticed no bad sock smell nor did any of the straps break. Maybe you forgot your mouthwash that day? ;-) The company could improve on the seal of the bag though.

I bought these masks on Amazon and they don’t smell at all and I had no problems with the straps breaking. Maybe the test box was sitting on a shelf next to a bottle of ammonia? LOL.

A friend bought a box of these at Menard’s. While she’s pleased with them, she was quite surprised that the masks aren’t individually wrapped. Readers might appreciate knowing that.
