Why did this mask fail?

Review

Video Transcript Hey everyone, welcome back to the place where we test every single mask in the world. That's right, we started with Amazon, and we're going worldwide. Today we're looking at India masks, which is really exciting. Seen a bunch of interesting stuff. Looking at the Plus Care mask today, but before we get into the box let's get into the clamp.

Terrible shot. I need to change that. Keep saying that. Every time I say that, and then I don't change it. And then what happens? And then here we are with a bad shot again. Oh my gosh, that's clamp of the week. I love that clamp.

All right, let's let her rip. This is a PFE machine, particulate filtration efficiency machine. If you want to find out more about how this works check out that video. One quick note, we are not testing fit. We are just testing filtration. You need both fit and filtration to pick a good mask. So keep that in mind. All right, no website for these guys. Couldn't find them on the internet. One of our Indian epidemiological ... That's not a word. I can't say it. Doctors. There's an Indian doctor that sent us some of these masks. Thank you. He sent us these and it's got like a ... It's like a large box here. It's not soft touch, but what'd you want? Single use only. Looks like they're talking about the factory there. Made in India.

Just looking.

This is weird that they have this quantity, 100 or 50, like kind of obvious depending on the size of the box. Which this one is 100, and it's not checked. All right. Very weird sized box, by the way. It looks like it could fit 75 masks. So you open it up, they are placed in here really nicely, which I like. I would think a machine probably did that. But it's right in the box, and I don't like this type of cardboard, because it smells weird. It's just a personal preference. But if you're talking about safety, this is all you got, well what are you ...

Okay, so this is a design I've seen many times. I think first time I saw it was in Taiwan. The idea is that it's folded over and double welded, which should give it more worth. I'm questioning this mask right off the bat. I can see through it. I can see my finger through it there. And so when that happens I'm like, I'm not sure that this has very good melt-blown, or any melt-blown. In fact, two of the masks from large companies that we've seen in India did not have any melt-blown. They just had spunbond. So spunbond and spunbond are the outer layers. It's an outer layer of spunbond. Outer layer of spunbond. All those are for is for blocking water, because melt-blown can't block water. In fact, it will start to go bad if it's not protected.

And the melt-blown looks kind of like toilet paper, but you can see in this, depending on the resolution I'm looking here, yeah, you can see how it's kind of see through. This is melt-blown though, and you can see that I can see my hand through that. And then you see these weird, wavy patterns? That's not very good quality melt-blown. Let's check out the ear loops. Aside from the surprisingly poor filtrations, I really don't like ... The ear loop quality, on a whole, from the masks I have received ... If I'm wrong, send me masks. If you have a mask that's good from India, actually the Masklab ... No, Masklab has a great product in the United States, and I've bought their masks, amazing masks. Ear loops are great. For whatever reason, the ones that we got from India, could've been a bad batch, but the ear loops, these are awful. These are barely ear loops. And then watch this. Watch. Watch. Oh, actually that ... This is the strongest ear loop that we've had. But these are going to fall apart on your face. I promise you. That's not good.

If you're out there and you're trying to be protected it shouldn't be able to do that. Come on. So I don't love that. All right. The nose wear is actually very small too. Let's try it on. Do the smell. Now again, I don't like this cardboard box because it usually has a big smell, but I will say American masks, Chinese masks, on a whole, Chinese masks for whatever reason the worst smell. Don't know why. Indian masks, best smell. Best smell. There was one that had a slight weird like kind of cigarette-y smell to it, but these have the best smell. We need to combine the best of the best here. Because China's got the manufacturing prowess, and the United States has got maybe like the best filtration, and then India has the best smell. Let's put them all together and make a worldwide amazing mask.

How they do it, I don't know. Smells great. I'm going to call this one smells great. Smells like a great box that I want to live in for the rest of my life. That's right, put those words on the screen Eric. All right. Great smell. But does any of that matter if it doesn't protect you? Let's check out the machine.

Oof. [inaudible 00:05:35] if you can see through that melt-blown it's not good. 46.634. 46.634. Not the worst mask that we've seen in India, but I certainly wouldn't want this protecting me. So I would not be recommending the Plus Care masks any time soon. All right, thank you guys for watching. Look, one of the reasons why we're doing this, by the way, specifically from India is that we sent millions of our masks to India, and we were actually criticized a lot saying, "Why are you sending these masks? We have a lot of mask manufacturers in India." But it was the people on the ground, the doctors, the epidemiologists on the ground, I said it, on the ground that were reaching out to us and saying, "Look, we don't have high quality filtration masks. We need them here. We need them to protect us."

And I said, "Well maybe your masks are good. Send them to us, and let's test them." But for the most part we have yet to hit a mask that's above a 98% so far in India. But I love being proven wrong. So the whole soliloquy here ... I don't think I'm using that word right. The story that I'm telling you is that if you have a mask from India, and it's a great mask, I want it. Send it to me. I want to test it. I'll give you a shout out. And man, that's a lot of internet points, shout outs. It's almost as a like and subscribe, which I'll also take from you. All right, I'll check you on the next test. Thank you guys so much.
